Minimal Invasive Surgery (Laparoscopy)

Minimal Invasive Surgery (Laparoscopy)

This is also called Keyhole surgery which is performed through small incisions (5mm-12mm wide)

These procedures include:

  • Ovarian Cyst aspiration and Cystectomy or Oophorectomy. Removal of ovarian cyst or growths laparoscopically and if needed removal of the ovaries. This leads to shorter hospital stay and earlier recovery than open surgery.
  • Removal of Ectopic Pregnancies
  • Endometriosis Surgery. This is a common gynaecological condition that affects up to 10% of all women during their child-bearing years. Endometriosis is a condition where tissue, similar to the tissue that normally grows inside the uterus, also grows outside of the uterus. It can grow on the ovaries, the fallopian tubes, the bowel and the surfaces of the areas in front, the back and to the sides of the uterus.
  • Laparoscopic diagnosis and excision of endometriosis implants. Staging of severity of endometriosis. The symptoms are:

  • Pain
  • Heavy periods
  • Chronic pelvic pain
  • Painful sex
  • Difficulty to fall pregnant

  • Myomectomy - Sometimes small superficial myomas can be excised from the womb by laparoscopic surgery. Larger or deeper myomas might need more conventional surgery. (Open laparotomy myomectomy)
  • CAVATERM Endometrial Ablation. A procedure done for relief of Heavy Menstrual bleeding. Stay in hospital is 12-24 hours. Can sometimes lead to no menstrual periods at all (30% patients)
  • Laparoscopic Tubal Ligation (also referred to as sterilisation). This is for permanent long-term prevention of pregnancy.
